Start with an Idea
Every project is unique and has differing goals. The method for growing your user base is different than getting the first couple users in the beginning. Ranking new content or a particular keyword is different than ranking a new website. Once we know what outcome we want, I can focus on what we need to do to get there.
Strategy and Planning
After researching, it's time to turn the information we have gathered into actionable steps. After that, I start forming the content and linking strategy for the website. The website layout begins to take form, and I also start looking towards setting up the foundation.
Build the Foundation
Building the foundation of a website involves setting up the server and DNS. I install a fresh copy of WordPress and load all the plugins and settings that I use. Once all the options and settings are finished, I start working on the design.
The great thing about this set-up is that the site will be online at a temporary URL. This way only you and I can see the site. Google crawlers are also disabled so the content isn't indexed.
During the design process, I'll be designing the pages and layout/theme of the site as a whole. Once I've completed enough to give you an idea of the site, you can visit the site and give feedback. At this stage the site will be roughly 80% done. During the development stage, I will be working within the code to rough out the edges and complete the website.
The design process did a lot of the heavy lifting to flesh out the website. The development is the fine tuning required to take the website to the next level. This stage tweaks the code to make sure that your site looks great on all screen sizes. I also take special care on the spacing and layout at this stage to make sure the website flows for a better user experience. After I'm done, you take another look over the site and I finish up any changes.
Optimizing your site consists of some different methods.
First I look at the performance of the site. I turn on all the various forms of caching I use and get the page load times as low as I can. Making sure all the images are compressed and have alt tags is often overlooked, but is important for SEO and site usability. Once I know the site is optimized on the performance front, I look at the user optimization.
I make sure the user experience is natural and nothing jarring sticks out. I'm sure everyone has seen sites that make you pause and wonder, what were they thinking? We don't want that.
Making sure we catch any bugs or typos before launch is important to make sure the first impression is a great one. I go through and make sure all the links work, images display, responsive elements work, and more. This is the last step before the site goes live.
Linking and Networking
Once the site is live, I start linking it to all the social media and business listing services we want to be found on. I set up the Google business and map listings, manage the site through Google webmasters, and set up the social media pages.
This stage makes sure you're listed properly across the internet. And that no matter where people find you, you make a good first impression.
Informing and Advertising
Now we tell everyone! Let all your customers, family, and friends know about it. Get a little boost on your social media and review sites before we start advertising.
If advertising is something you want to pursue, we start the process for advertising on whichever platform you want. I design an ad and set up a marketing area with proper filters and let it run. Soon you'll be getting new followers, customers and fans!
Maintenance and Updating
After your website is launched, we look towards what you want to accomplish in the future. Are you interested in running a blog, updating a flyer or menu? We can make a custom plan that fits best with your business goals and budget.
